The Artist

Stephie Reiss moved to her cottage on the north east of Dartmoor in 2001 where she now runs workshops and art classes for both adults and GCSE to A level students.

A fascination for ancient woodland and the extremes of weather experienced on Dartmoor underpin her work producing images that lie somewhere between textured paintings and low relief reflecting her initial training in sculpture.

Stephie's work celebrates the endurance of Dartmoor, capturing the ephemeral quality of light seen through twisted trunks and branches.

"Woods and trees survive wind, rain drought, ice, snow. They endure this and man's interference. They survive wearing their marks of growth and restraint. For me, a living metaphor for the human condition."
